THE USEFUL PART
Choose a goal first: change one ad, adjust topics, limit data used for ads, or manage saved activity. Google provides different controls for each.
Start in the account you actually use
Open My Ad Center at myadcenter.google.com and check the account shown. On a shared device, a setting changed for one person should not be assumed to apply to someone else. If you use multiple Google accounts, inspect the one active when you see the ads you want to manage.
Google’s My Ad Center supports controls for ads on services such as Search and YouTube. You can also open controls from an ad’s More or Info menu. Some options differ when you are signed out or have personalization turned off, so a missing button is a reason to read the help text, not to assume your account is broken.

Make the main personalization choice
Review the Personalized ads control and its confirmation text. Turning it off changes which information is used to select ads; it does not make Google’s free services ad-free. Keep a private note of the account, setting, and date if you want a reliable record of your choice.
If you prefer to leave personalization on, use Customize Ads to express topic and brand preferences. Asking for fewer ads about a subject is not a promise that the subject disappears or that you receive fewer ads overall. Choose this route when you want to shape relevance, rather than using it as a substitute for a broader privacy preference.
Review activity used for ads
In Manage Privacy, review the available activity controls, including activity on sites and apps, YouTube History, and areas where you’ve used Google. Open a category, read its description, choose your preference, and confirm. Availability and wording can vary; the text in your account is the place to verify the scope of a change.
Google separates using activity for ad personalization from saving activity and using it for recommendations. Turning off YouTube History for ads, for example, is not the same as deleting watch history. Use the relevant account activity settings if deletion or future saving is your actual goal.

For ads on other websites, check the provider
My Ad Center topic and brand preferences concern Google services. For Google-served ads on partner websites and apps, inspect Partner ad settings as well. Google notes that browser and device settings can affect how a personalization choice applies there. A Google control does not control advertisements supplied by every other company.
Open the ad’s disclosure menu to identify its provider. Do not identify it from the publisher’s logo or the visual style of a banner. If the provider is unknown, use the website’s own privacy and advertising information rather than assuming that the Google settings page is the right destination.

Verify the saved choice, not the next ad
Return to the settings page and check the saved state in the intended account. That is a clearer verification step than judging one subsequent ad. If your goal was removing a saved activity record, check the relevant activity page too; the ad control alone cannot confirm deletion.
- Record the scope: this account, this platform, or this browser.
- If the interface differs, use the official help linked below and search its exact setting name.
- For a single unwanted ad, use its block control. For a suspected policy violation, use reporting; those actions are distinct.
- Do not share screenshots containing your account email or activity history just to ask about a control.
