Ad controls don’t all do the same thing. Choose the platform where you saw the ad, then check the scope of the setting before changing it.
Google · YouTube
Start with My Ad Center.
Review personalization and preferences for Google services. Some controls depend on whether you’re signed in and whether personalized ads are enabled.
- Open My Ad Center using the Google account you use on that service.
- Review the information and activity used for ads.
- Choose whether to adjust a topic, a data category, or personalization as a whole.
Changing topics does not change the total number of ads. Turning off ad personalization does not also delete saved account activity.

- Find Ad preferences and read the description of the setting.
- For a specific ad, use its three-dot menu and look for Why am I seeing this ad? or About this ad.

Hide, block, or report?
Hiding or blocking is feedback about what you want to see. Reporting asks the platform to review an ad for a possible violation. These actions are different, and none guarantees a universal or permanent block.
Find the right actionYou can use an ad’s disclosure menu without opening its advertiser destination. Avoid sharing personal details with a suspicious advertiser.
Before you change a setting
Check which account you’re using, which platforms the control covers, and whether it affects data collection, ad personalization, or just one ad. A change to one platform does not change another platform’s settings.
